PUBLIC RECORDS EXEMPTION TO PROTECT COUNTY AND CITY ATTORNEYS
NEARS THE FINISH LINE
The granting of public records exemptions to county and city attorneys and their families to protect against threats and stalking is being
considered by The Florida Legislature.
Sponsored by Rep. Kristen Arrington, HB 103 was unanimously approved by the House. A companion bill, SB 712 by Sen.
Bobby Powell, faced a delay in the Senate as Powell was honored in his final session due to term limits. Powell, an urban planner, has served since 2012.
Citing threats and stalking incidents, the goal of the bills is to shield personal information such as names, addresses, and phone numbers, as well as details about children’s schools.
The Florida League of Cities and the Florida Association of Counties support the legislation. A final Senate vote is expected soon.
