SUPREME COURT GEARS UP FOR MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION
ARGUMENTS
The Florida Supreme Court will hear oral arguments November 8 regarding the “Adult Personal Use of Marijuana” citizen initiative.
If approved by 60% or more of voters, the constitutional amendment would legalize non-medical marijuana use, prohibiting criminal liability or civil sanctions for its
use.
Additionally, it would allow licensed Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers to produce and sell recreational cannabis products.
The initiative, backed by Smart & Safe Florida, faces opposition from Gov. Ron DeSantis and Attorney General Ashley Moody, who argue it fails to meet legal
requirements.
Smart & Safe Florida has gathered over a million verified signatures and raised $39 million, primarily from Trulieve, the state’s leading
dispensary chain.
Polls suggest mixed public sentiment, but higher voter turnout during a presidential election could favor its passage.
